Vinyl (the old fashioned record) is growing out of it’s
niche and making a big comeback. No
longer just a small collectors niche, there are more albums being pressed than
before.
A number of record collectors always disdained the compact
disc, arguing that an LP’s grooves yielded warmth and depth that the CD’s
digital code could not match. The market
largely ignored them and shuttered their LP pressing plants even though vinyl
remained the medium of choice for many DJ’s.
Today record collectors many born after the birth of CDs in
the 1980s have been growing in numbers and bringing back the resurgence of
vinyl recordings.
Every major label and some smaller ones too are releasing
vinyl recordings again including artists like Daft Punk “Random Access Memories”
who just won 2014 album and record of the year and for the single from that
album “Get Lucky”.
In addition to recordings now being released on vinyl there
is the very popular all vinyl only monthly party RECORDnition created and
hosted by the legendary DJ and producer Easy Mo Bee and Emskee. The party goes down in NYC where HipHop
began.
If you are lucky enough to be in the NYC area this Saturday, February 15th make plans
